An Overview of Bora Bora

Of all the islands that make up the French Polynesian, Bora Bora is the most beautiful and magical of them all. It’s overall beauty and essence is something that words and pictures can only describe so much. You really have to be there and experience it first hand to truly understand.

There is the main island of Bora Bora that lies in the center of a multi-blueish colored lagoon. Surrounding the main island are svereal smaller islands, known as motu or motu islets. The island and the surrounding motus are surrounded by a protective coral barrier often referred to as a protective necklace. It’s quite the beautiful necklace if you ask me.

The surrounding motus make for the perfect secluded getaways and the location of several luxurious resorst that feature the world famous, overwater bungalows. It was Hotel Bora Bora that first built these overwater bungalows in the French Polynesia and the soon became a smashing success and duplicated around the entire area. Though these bungalows are exceptionally know as the place for honeymooners, regardless of your reason for visiting Bora Bora, you have to stay in one of the overwater villas at least once.

Around the main island, there is only one main road for you to travel. This road, or “pass” as it is often referred to, makes for a nice tour of the island and will take you through the colorful Tahitian villages. You can also see Old World War II cannons and bunkers and spectacular archaeological sites. You can take this tour on your own or take one of the tour buses or tour packages offered on the island.

Whatever you reason for visiting Bora Bora, you can rest assured that there is something enjoyable for everyone. After all, it is a “magical” island.
